Heney papers, ca. 1880-1965 (bulk 1935-1965).

Summary: Correspondence, scrapbooks and memorabilia, newspaper clippings, financial documents, manuscripts, and a few photographs relating to Heney family members and records related to Ben Heney's real estate and mining ventures particulary reports of the Swisshelm Gold and Silver Mine. There is one page in a journal headed Citizens Protection League of Pima County, dated 1917, listings names of individuals and amounts paid. Receipts are present for the Sunset Dairy and Drachman Shoe Store. Two manuscripts by Col. Cornelius C. Smith are present entitled "Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana," and "A History of the Oury Family." A scrapbook of Ruth Heney contains many dance cards from 1910s Tucson events. Correspondence, financial and legal documents, and reports (1908-1921) are present relating to the Swisshelm Gold and Silver Mine and other mining and real estate ventures.

Biographical note: Accountant; George "Ben" Heney was City Treasurer and Tax Collector from 1888 to 1901, and Pima County Treasurer and Tax Collector from 1901 to 1909. He served as Tucson's Mayor for ten months in 1909, but was asked to resign after a quarrel with the City Council. He married Blanca Erminia Roca Montoya in 1886; she was the daughter of Tucson merchant Miguel Gonzales Roca and Josefina Samaniego de Haro.
